Program OverviewManitos Family Based
Mental Health Services are funded by the Office of Mental Health, Department of Public
Welfare. Services are non-traditional, in-home and team delivered. They are designed to
assist families to care for their children/adolescents with emotional/behavioral problems
such that the child/adolescent is at risk of either psychiatric hospitalization or
out-of-home placement.
To be eligible for Family Based Mental Health Services, a
child/adolescent must be enrolled with the County office of MH/MR, have an Axis I
diagnosis, demonstrate serious emotional/behavioral issues and have been unresponsive to
other treatment modalities. A determination of eligibility is required from a physician,
or licensed psychologist prior to the initiation of services. Funding is provided through
Managed Care.

advocate and coordinate available CASSP resources

- Financial assistance to families in need for concrete assistance to
aide in family stabilization

- Decrease in behavior which prompted the referral
- Increase in positive, appropriate adaptive behavior
- Increase in pro-social behavior
Target Population
- Children and adolescents under the age of 21
- At risk of out-of-home hospitalization or placement
- DSM diagnosis as per physician, psychiatrist, licensed psychologist
evaluation
- Severe behavioral and/or emotional disturbance
- Families with at least one cooperative parent
Objectives
- To prevent out-of-home psychiatric hospitalizations for placements
- To preserve the integrity of the family
- To link the child and family with appropriate community agencies
and individuals to create an ongoing community support system
- To strengthen the familys coping skills and capacity for
functioning effectively in the community
Funding
Family Based Mental Health Services are
funded by Medical Assistance and are administered through the Countys Health Choices
contractor.
