Manito’s Education Centers provide a non-residential, community-based option for adolescents experiencing difficulties in school. Manito provides a therapeutic learning environment designed to provide the structure and support needed for success.  We believe in partnering with schools and other interested agencies for a holistic approach in addressing problems.

Centers are in operation during traditional school day hours.  Manito is an approved private provider of Alternative Education for Disruptive Youth Programs by the PA Department of Education.

Referrals/Clients
 

Referrals to Manito’s Therapeutic Education Centers come from the following sources:

  • Public Schools
  • Juvenile Court
  • Children & Youth systems
  • Mental Health Systems
Youth are accepted into Manito who are between the ages of 12 and 18. Most referrals to the program are experiencing behavioral, social, family or educational problems.
 
Social Skills & Counseling

Instruction on pro-social skills is a core component of the program at Manito. Our goal is to provide students with the tools they need to be successful in school, at home and in the community. Adventure based activities are used to enhance self-concept, team development skills, cooperation, and trust.

Individual counseling and/or mentoring is available to all students at Manito. Trained counselors assist students to improve self awareness and self understanding, set goals, explore new positive behaviors, and develop problem solving and decision making skills.

Family Therapy and Drug and Alcohol Counseling Services provided by Masters level therapists may also be available.

Funding for Therapeutic and Alternative Education services at Manito is a joint effort of county commissioners and public school districts.
